We highlight some of the attractions of the city of Nottingham and surrounding areas. More details can be found in the Visitor Guide available from Visit Nottinghamshire. However, you might want to take advantage of a trip to the UK to explore the capital; London is just over an hour away by train.

Nottingham is a green city with a legendary past, home to creativity, culture and the legend of Robin Hood. Nottinghamshire offers a variety of walking and cycle routes across the county through nature reserves, country parks to the legendary Sherwood Forest. The county is also home to some of Nottingham’s much-loved sporting grounds including the world-renowned 3rd oldest Test match ground, Trent Bridge. Explore the city’s vibrant streets filled with galleries and independent shops.

Delve into the city’s underground history with the labyrinthine of 800+ caves deep beneath the city’s streets. Nottingham is known for its rebellious and pioneering history dating back to the legendary Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men, who fought for the rights of those oppressed by the Sheriff of Nottingham. This spirit continued throughout the English Civil War and it lives on today through various community initiatives and the creativity of the local people.

The city is home to stunning open spaces. Old Market Square is one of Europe’s largest city squares, which transforms with the seasons from a beautiful sunny seaside to a festive Winter Wonderland. Wollaton Hall and park is a Grade I listed Elizabethan country house that was once home to barons in the 1580s as well as Bruce Wayne in the 2012 The Dark Knight Rises Batman film. Today, Wollaton Hall houses Nottingham’s Natural History Museum which is surrounded by 500 acres of stunning open green space – where you may spot a deer or two!
