Peter D Donnelly is Professor of Public Health Medicine at the University of St Andrews. He is a Public Health leader and academic with extensive international experience.  His diverse career of over 40 years is characterised by innovation, a focus on fairness and a very personal commitment to developing the next generation of public health professionals. He has led large public Health departments in Swansea and Lothian. He has served as Scotland’s Deputy CMO and as President and CEO of Ontario’s Public Health Agency. A board member of the New York Based Milbank memorial fund for over a decade, he is a former President of the UK Directors of Public Health and Vice President of the Faculty of Public Health. He is the winner of the 2026 Alwyn Smith medal, the UK Faculty of Public Health’s top award recognising “outstanding contribution of members to the health of the public.
