Imperial College London
I am a Clinical Reader and Honorary Consultant in Rheumatology at Imperial College London. My group’s research lies at the interface of molecular epidemiology, computational biology and clinical medicine. Our focus is understanding the molecular and cellular basis of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases using a combination of genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. We employ a wide range of techniques including longitudinal molecular profiling, polygenic risk scores, and Mendelian randomisation, leveraging both our own in-house datasets and also publically available resources (e.g., GWAS summary statistics, UK Biobank). From a vasculitis perspective, my doctoral research included the first genome-wide association study of EGPA. My post-doctoral work included mapping the genetic determinants of circulating proteins, including proteinase-3. Recently our group has used novel proteomic technologies to perform molecular profiling of patients with large vessel vasculitis.
My clinical interest in vasculitis developed during my registrar training on the North London rotation, particularly working with Justin Mason at the Hammersmith Hospital. I was awarded a Wellcome Trust PhD Fellowship and did my PhD at the University of Cambridge, and during this time I worked as a Fellow in the Lupus and Vasculitis clinic at Addenbrookes Hospital with David Jayne and colleagues. I was a Consultant in the Lupus and Vasculitis clinic at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge from 2016-2019, and also held an Honorary Consultant position in the Vasculitis clinic at the Royal London Hospital during this time. My clinical practice is now at the Hammersmith Hospital, where I focus on lupus, giant cell arteritis and IgG4-related disease.
