Dr Wessels is a clinical nephrologist and the Lead for Vasculitis and Haemodialysis at University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust, United Kingdom. Early training in nephrology was in Sydney, Australia with postgraduate training in nephrology in the NHS, UK before becoming an NHS consultant. She is active in clinical research in areas of interest.

She is a member of the West Midlands Vasculitis Network.
