Maxim David Horwitz MBChB BSc(Hons) FRCS(Tr&Orth) Dip Hand Surg (BSSH)

Mr Maxim David Horwitz is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he leads the Paediatric Hand Surgery Service. He is also an Honorary Consultant at the Major Trauma Centre at St Mary’s Hospital, London, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), Stanmore.

His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of adult and paediatric hand, wrist and upper-limb conditions, with a particular focus on paediatric hand surgery, congenital hand differences, upper-limb trauma, peripheral nerve disorders, neuromuscular conditions, and complex reconstructive and wrist surgery. He treats patients from infancy through adolescence, as well as adults with both elective and traumatic conditions.

Following orthopaedic training in London, he undertook fellowship training in paediatric hand surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital, together with advanced trauma and reconstructive training through the AO Foundation and the Pulvertaft Hand Fellowship in Sydney, Australia. His practice incorporates microsurgical and reconstructive techniques for complex upper-limb conditions.

In 2022 he founded The Hand Doctor Practice, a specialist private service providing comprehensive hand and wrist care for adults and children across Central and Greater London. This includes both elective and trauma pathways, supported by multidisciplinary care.

Mr Horwitz holds the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) Postgraduate Diploma in Hand Surgery and is a full member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the British Orthopaedic Association. He is a former member of BSSH Council and contributes to national initiatives in research and innovation in hand surgery.

His academic interests include paediatric hand surgery, congenital upper-limb anomalies, trauma, and surgical innovation. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and educational contributions in hand and wrist surgery, and remains actively involved in collaborative clinical research aimed at improving outcomes for children and adults with complex upper-limb conditions.
