Mr Akira Wiberg is a Consultant Peripheral Nerve Surgeon with the South West Brachial Plexus Team at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. His clinical practice encompasses brachial plexus reconstruction, complex peripheral nerve injury, and surgery for neuropathic pain, including neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome and nerve decompression surgery for migraine and other headache disorders.

He divides his time between his clinical roles and his academic appointment at the University of Oxford, where he leads the Peripheral Nerve Research Laboratory within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences. His team's research spans the translational medicine pipeline, from genomic discovery science through to early-phase clinical studies, aimed at elucidating the biological mechanisms underlying nerve compression injury, and translating these insights into more preciseĀ and effective treatments for patients.
